Observation 6847

Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge deploys several employees to predetermined locations to count Sandhill Cranes as they leave their roost site on the St. Francis wetland. We have 5 counters with left and right limits established to avoid double counting of cranes. Once no more Sandhill Cranes are observed and counted leaving the roost site on St. Francis the count is ended and numbers are added up for a final count for the day. Tis location is the St. francis pool location. We typically have 2 counters stationed several hundred feet apart to count. This location counts Cranes flying north/northeast.
