Locke Township, Ingham County, Michigan--74 cranes were observed flying over in small groups, mainly from the southwest over the trees, but they all continued flying north/northeast. No cranes (0) landed or stayed to roost at this location this year. They may have flown to the Scenic Lake area (Leisure Lake) where Sandhills have been counted in past years, but that's just a guess.
We had seen cranes in this area in previous months, but they don't seem to visit the pond much anymore. The pond is getting rather shallow and muddy. Also, the surrounding fields were planted to soybeans rather than corn this year which they don't care to eat.
