Visitor Center and Trail Open/Closed Information

  • The Wildlife Drive is open through November (icy or snowy road conditions will warrant closure for safety). Walking and bicycling along the Drive are not permitted. Please stay in your vehicle on the Drive until designated viewing areas marked by binocular signs. Walking on the dikes/in the water are not permitted.
  • The Visitor Center (including the sun room) and Nature Store, as well as the outdoor restrooms, will remain closed until further notice.
  • Walking trails and viewing areas are open from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.

Please do your part to keep your refuge clean and safe for the wildlife and for other visitors. Follow Leave No Trace and Carry in/Carry out practices as best as you can!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of Public Health and the US Public Health Service are closely monitoring the situation related to the outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (COVID-19). In accordance with CDC guidance and other federal, state, and local health authorities, facilities managers in national wildlife refuges continue to do everything they can to maintain high standards related to the health and wellness of staff and visitors.
