SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today released for public comment and review a draft Habitat Conservation Plan for the northern spotted owl and California spotted owl and accompanying draft Environmental Impact Statement. The draft habitat conservation plan was submitted by Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) after requesting a 50-year incidental take permit. The plan would allow SPI to conduct forest management work while providing conservation measures for the northern spotted owl and California spotted owl.
The proposed activities will be located within a 1,566,151-acre plan area on SPI’s land holdings in several northern California counties, including Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Humboldt, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne and Yuba.
Today’s announcement opens a 60-day public review period of the draft plan and environmental analysis that ends July 1, 2019. Copies of these documents are available for download via the Federal Register, Sacramento Public Library and Redding Library. Comments can be submitted via email, fax: 916–414–6713 or U.S. mail addressed to: Kim S. Members of the public will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss issues regarding the draft environmental impact statement, and provide written comments at in-person public meetings and a webinar scheduled as indicated below.
