Need to Know

Fees: All programs are free with a valid entrance pass. Learn more about fees on our Visit Us page.
Reservations: Space may be limited and reservations may be required for some tours, please see the program descriptions for more information.
Cancellations: Some programs are subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Come Prepared: Always check the weather conditions before leaving home and dress appropriately for the day. This might include wearing a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, long pants, and walking shoes. We recommend that you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
A parent or guardian must accompany all youth under the age of 18. All participants must come prepared to be good listeners, pay very close attention to the walk leader, stay with the group, and be respectful of wildlife and other visitors.
Trails. Trail surfaces are either mowed grass, shell-rock gravel, or a wooden boardwalk. Trails are mostly flat without steep inclines, but some trails have uneven surfaces and exposed roots.
Note for large groups Please contact refuge staff at least one month in advance to make a reservation for guided tours of groups larger than five (5) individuals. Reservations allow staff to avoid conflicts between other groups and resource management activities, and to arrange logistics for those groups requesting services.

Tram Tours - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 10 am; Saturdays 9 am

Walking and biking are a great way to see the Refuge, but sit back and relax on this educational tour via tram! Each row seats three people, but the middle seat is very small. Unless you have a small person sitting between two people, we will seat you two to a row. The tram also has a running board approximately 6 inches off the ground, hand rails on the side of each bench, and a hand hold at the ceiling of the tram. Seats are not assigned with your reservation and we recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the tour. Tours are approximately 90 minutes long. Maximum number of passengers is 8 people. Reserve your spot(s) by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Saturday tours- the visitor center opens at 9 am. The tram will meet in front of the visitor center at 9 am. Outdoor bathrooms can be found to the left of the visitor center.

Moonlight Paddle - August 17 at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Everglades at night on a full moon night. This will be a 1 mile guided paddling trip. Loxahatchee canoeing will be hosting the event and starting at the Lee Road Boat Ramp. Participants are encouraged to wear long-sleeved shirts and pants and should bring a flashlight and insect repellant. Reservations are required. Tram Tours - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 10:00 am; Saturdays 9:00 am

Birding Tour - September 11 and 25 at 7:30 am

Whether you are new to bird spotting or experienced enough to tell one yellow warbler from another, you'll enjoy this birding tour led by an experienced bird watching volunteer, Mary! These bird tours are meant for all experience levels! You may see iconic wading birds of Florida, migratory birds visiting from all over North America, maybe even raptors swooping for their prey! Reserve your spot today and don't forget to bring your binoculars. If you don't have your own, we will have up to 5 binoculars on loan for the duration of the program. This a 1 to 1.5 mile walking program on packed gravel on a sunny, unshaded trail. Participants are encouraged to wear closed toe shoes, have a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. Latino Conservation Week Short Film Series- September 15 and September 21, 11 am and 2 pm

¡Celebre las artes latinas en nuestro maratón de películas! Tendremos dos presentaciones el 15 y 21 de septiembre. Tendremos dos presentaciones cada día: a las 11 a. m. y a las 2 p. m. Vuelve aquí para ver la lista completa de películas. Las películas están en español con subtítulos. Las películas estarán en el Teatro del Centro de Visitantes. Le recomendamos que se presente 15 minutos antes de cada función para reservar su propio asiento. El espacio está limitado a las primeras 35 personas.

Celebrate Latino arts in our mini movie marathon! We will have two showings on September 15 and September 21. We will have two showings each day - 11 am and 2 pm. Check back here for the full list of movies. Movies are in Spanish with subtitles. Films will be in the Visitor Center Theater. We encourage you to show up 15 minutes before each showing to reserve your own seat. Space is limited to the first 35 people.

International Coastal Clean Up - September 28, 9 am to 12 pm

Our Friends group is hosting International Coastal Clean Up! Help us pick up litter and keep the Refuge a safe place to wildlife and people both! We'll be doing a litter pick up at two locations- Lee rd (West Boynton Beach) and Lox Rd (West of Coral Springs). If you are interested, please email catherine@loxahatcheefriends.com with how many people will be attending and which area you would like to work at.

Pocket Refuge Planting at Old School Square in Delray Beach - September 28, 9 am to 12 pm

Save the date! Help us plant Old School Square in Delray Beach with native plants like beautyberry, cocoplum, coontie, and more! We'll need lots of help to create a native garden for people and wildlife to enjoy. Pocket refuges are meant to increase biodiversity and create green areas for people to enjoy. Family Fishing Day with Reel Fishing Charities - September 28, 9 am to 12 pm

Bring the kids and the family to enjoy a great day of fishing! Our partner, Reel Fishing Charities, will teach your kids how to tie a fishing knot, prep their pole, cast, and catch and identify fish! Meet at the Lee Rd Boat Ramp.
