U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 20241219 CBRS_Buffer_Zone vector digital data Falls Church, VA U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service https://www.fws.gov/media/digital-coastal-barrier-resources-system-boundaries https://www.fws.gov/program/coastal-barrier-resources-act/maps-and-data This Coastal Barrier Resources System (CBRS) data set, produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), is intended to supplement other data sets entitled “CBRS Polygons” and “CBRS Prohibitions,” which both contain areas designated as undeveloped coastal barriers in accordance with the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (CBRA), as amended (16 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.). CBRS boundaries viewed using the CBRS Mapper at https://www.fws.gov/program/coastal-barrier-resources-act/maps-and-data or the CBRS Polygons or CBRS Prohibitions shapefiles are subject to misrepresentations beyond the Service’s control, including misalignments of the boundaries with third party base layers and misprojections of spatial data. This CBRS Buffer Zone data set is intended to be paired with either of the aforementioned data sets to illustrate the stated horizontal accuracy of the boundaries therein. Users should pair this data with the CBRS Polygons or CBRS Prohibitions data and an orthoimage when inspecting areas that are within or in close proximity to the CBRS. Properties or structures that fall partially or entirely within the buffer area may be within the CBRS, and an official determination from the Service is recommended. For an official determination of whether or not an area or specific property is located within the CBRS, please follow the procedures found at https://www.fws.gov/service/coastal-barrier-resources-system-property-documentation. The Service is not responsible for any misuse or misinterpretation of this digital data set, including use of the data to determine eligibility for Federal funding and financial assistance. For any questions regarding the CBRS, please contact your local Service field office or email CBRA@fws.gov. Contact information for Service field offices can be found at https://www.fws.gov/node/267216. This data set is intended to be paired with the CBRS Polygons and CBRS Prohibitions data sets to illustrate the stated horizontal accuracy of the boundaries therein. Users should pair this data with the CBRS Polygons or CBRS Prohibitions data and an orthoimage when inspecting areas that are within or in close proximity to the CBRS. Users are advised to contact the Service for an official determination as to whether a particular property or structure that falls either partially or completely within the CBRS Buffer Zone is located within the CBRS. For more information, see the metadata for the CBRS Polygons and CBRS Prohibitions available at https://www.fws.gov/media/digital-coastal-barrier-resources-system-boundaries. 19901024 20241210 Publication date Complete CBRS maps are either enacted by Congress through legislation or adopted administratively by the Service, and are also maintained by the Service. As maps are revised, this data set will be updated with an updated buffer for the revised boundaries. -97.6389 -64.6227 47.4360 17.6752 CBRS Keywords CBIA CBRA CBRS CBRS Unit Coastal Barrier Coastal Barrier Improvement Act Coastal Barrier Resources Act Coastal Barrier Resources System Flood Insurance Prohibition John H. Data was inspected to ensure that "Buff_Dist" value equals the width of the buffer in feet on each side of the boundary. At this time, all buffers are 20 feet. Checks were conducted to ensure that the buffer was applied to the polygons appropriately and that the distance on the ground generally measured 20 feet on either side of the CBRS boundary. This buffer polygon data set has been checked to ensure that all external CBRS boundaries over land are covered by the appropriate buffer width. Coincident boundaries that are shared by two units or between prohibition areas (depicted in CBRS_Prohibitions) were not buffered. The seaward side of a CBRS unit is generally defined by either the 20-foot or the 30-foot bathymetric contour (depending on the location of the unit) and is usually unmapped. Because of this, seaward boundaries that are based on the location of a bathymetric contour are not covered by a buffer polygon in this data set. For more information on seaward CBRS boundaries see the metadata for the “CBRS Polygons” and “CBRS Prohibitions” data sets. The metadata is available at https://www.fws.gov/media/digital-coastal-barrier-resources-system-boundaries. This horizontal accuracy buffer dataset is intended to convey the horizontal positional accuracy of the “CBRS Polygons” and “CBRS Prohibitions” data sets. Thus, an accuracy assessment of the horizontal positional information is not applicable. For more information on the horizontal positional accuracy of the associated “CBRS Polygons” and “CBRS Prohibitions” data sets, see the metadata. The metadata is available at https://www.fws.gov/media/digital-coastal-barrier-resources-system-boundaries. A formal accuracy assessment of the vertical positional information in the data is not applicable.
