The Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery was invited to attend the BSA Conservation Weekend Event 2024, located at Woodruff Scout Camp near Blairsville, GA. Vehicle Operator, Charles Hood, represented the hatchery for the event. Over 700 scouts were in attendance, which was more than last year's attendance. Charles informed the scouts on the roll the hatchery plays in conservation with the stocking of trout into streams throughout the local area. He educated the scouts on the contributing issues that have the greatest impact on the environment and mortality of our fish and wildlife. He provided the scouts with examples of actions that could reduce those effects and promote a better environment and habitat to support our fish and wildlife. Charles invited the scouts to visit the hatchery to tour the facilities and see first hand the daily operations. Scout Leadership is working with the hatchery staff to assist in a program for scouts to achieve the Fish and Wildlife Management Merit Badge, one of three merit badges needed to obtain the BSA Complete Angler Award. The event went great and conservation knowledge was promoted and spread throughout the scouting troops.
