The many rivers in Montana break up the immense badlands and grasslands and provide nesting and brood rearing habitat for geese and ducks, especially in drier years. The Powder River originates near the Big Horn mountains in Wyoming and flows into eastern Montana and eventually joins the Yellowstone River. This picture was taken during the 2024 Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Surveys.
