Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge 2024-2025 HUNT SEASON

At Lower Klamath NWR, public waterfowl and pheasant hunting will be offered

Refuge Recreation Pass is required for all hunting on Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge.

Waterfowl:

Hunting for ducks and geese at Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge will begin one half hour before sunrise and end at 1:00 p.m. each day. You may drive into fields to set up, but you must exit fields before shooting time. Hunters are advised to scout the area ahead of hunting. Some flooded units (wetland and/or fields) may be available throughout the course of the season. 

Waterfowl Season Dates

California: 

  • Waterfowl hunting (ducks and geese) is permitted in dry fields only.
  • Waterfowl hunting in flooded wetlands may be reconsidered if water deliveries occur. 
  • Please be advised that roads at Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge  will be under construction during the hunting season; use caution and obey posted road closures.

Youth Waterfowl Hunt - September 21 & 22

Veteran and Active Military – January 18 & 19 

 General Season:

Ducks - October 5 – January 15
Scaup - October 5 – December 1 & December 19 – January 1                                                                                                                                           Geese (Canada, White-fronted, White (snow and Ross’s)

*Klamath Special Management Area

  • Canada Geese - October 5 – January 12
  • White and White-fronted geese - October 5 – January 17

Oregon:

  • The Oregon Straits (Area K) will be open for waterfowl and pheasant hunting.
  • Waterfowl hunting will end at 1:00 PM daily.

Veteran and Active Military Hunt - February 1, 2025

General Season:
Ducks - October 12 – December 1 & December 5 – January 26
Scaup - October 12 – December 1 & December 5 – January 8

Geese (Canada, White-fronted, White (snow and Ross’s) – The Klamath Basin falls under ODFW’s “High Desert and Blue Mountains Zone”

*Canada Geese – October 12 – December 1 & December 10 -January 26
*White/White-fronted October 12 – December 1 & January 18 – January 26

* There is no hunting allowed on Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge during the September 7-15 early Canada geese season.  Hunting for White/White-fronted geese on Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuges ends on the last day of day of the Canada goose season (January 26, 2025)

Pheasant:

Pheasant hunting will be permitted within the established hunt area from 8:00 a.m. to sunset daily.
