Step 1. Build Query section hosts the following query parameters:
Record Number: query by Record Identification Number;
Auth.CD/FEDID: query by Authorized code (formerly FEDID);
Transaction No.: Transaction/Activity code [1,2,3,4,5,6];
Species Code: query by species code/number;
Species Name: query by species name;
USFWS Band Number: query by USFWS/Band Number;
Old Band Number: query by old band number;
New Band Number: query by new band number;
Sender First name: query by Sender's first name;
Sender Last name: query by sender's last name;
Recipient First name: query by recipient's first name;
Recipient Last name: query by recipient's last name.
Detail explanation how to fill query parameters:
Record Number: is a unique key, numeric only, points to a 3-186A in the Database. Multiple Record numbers may be entered using comma to separate each number.
Since it is a unique key, you may ignore other parameters. Zero filled [front 0] is not needed. Click "Find" when done.
Auth.CD/FEDID: this field was formerly called FEDID. Multiple codes may be entered using comma to separate each code.
Transaction No.: this is the activity or action code used by falconers to register their species. Its value ranges from 1-6.
Multiple codes may be entered using comma to separate each code.
Species Code: this is a 4 digits look up number assigned to each species. Multiple numbers may be entered using comma to separate each number.
Species Name: You may enter the full species name or you may enter a partial name. The search algorithm first looks for the complete name, if not found
then it will change to partial search. Example: if "pereg" is partially entered, the system would attempt to search for species name with the exact name as entered. If
not found it will change to find anything in species name with the value of 'pereg' appears in any order & position.
USFWS Band Number: query by USFWS/Band Number;
Old Band Number: query by old band number;
New Band Number: query by new band number;
Sender First name: query by Sender's first name;
Sender Last name: query by Sender's last name;
Recipient First name: query by Recipient's first name;
Recipient Last name: query by Recipient's last name.
The search method for the above query parameters is the same as that described in search species name above.
Step 2. Query Actions hosts the following actions in the form of clickable "Button":
Find: execute/run the query using the query parameters;
Run Last Query: execute the last query. Example: yesterday you ran a query and went home. Today you want to recall what you left off yesterday;
Reset: clear all query parameters and lets you start with a new/fresh query;
Display All 3-186A: ignore all query parameters and load all avaialable 3-186A records from your state;
Query Result: Where?
The result of the query is a condensed list stored in the Drop Down List (DDL) under text label "Step 3. Click on the drop down list below to select a 3-186A record to View".
How to view the results? click the down arrow button placed to the right of the DDL. Each line/item, when selected, the entire 3-186A record will appear on
the Data View/Data-entry form.
How to read each item on the DDL? the first part of each item started from the first position in the drop down list (ddl) are names of Sender & Recipient separated as
"Last name, First name"; Sender and recipient names are separated by a verical bar (|); after the names is the hat (^) symbol; next 3 positions are the Owner state and Transaction code (1-6);
next is the separator "|"; the next 4 positions represent Sender & Recipient state codes followed by a "^" as separator. The Record Identifier is surrounded with a pair of "<>" and is
placed after the Date the record was created and before the [Authorized Code/FedID].
Example: for Vermont with a typical Transaction code "1", there are 3 possible items as follow:
Doer, Johny|Doer, Johny^VT1|VTVT: this 3-186A record is owned by Johny Doer, in VT; activity: 1; both Sender & Recipient are in Vermont & the same falconer.
Doer, Johny|Pace, Dick^VT1|VTVT: this 3-186A record is owned by Johny Doer, 2 diferent falconers in the state of VT.
Doer, Johny|William, Tommy^VT1|VTID: this 3-186A record is owned by Johny Doer, 2 diferent falconers, one from VT and 1 from Idaho.
The above arrangement allows users to quikly locate Sender/Recipient's names by typing the first few characters of falconer's last name after opening the DDL. This feature is very helpful
to zero-in a falconer in a large list. Example: for a DDL of 50+ items, first click on the down arrow of the list, then begin typing, say "will", the cursor will jump
to a block with the first "will)liam". From this line, you can find the target falconer easily without scanning the entire list.
IMPORTANT: make sure the query result DDL contains all records belong to your state by scrolling the DDL from top to bottom of the list with owner state
code placed right after Sender & Recipient names showing your state code only, regardless of Sender and Recipient.
How to read Transaction Identification Number/Code
TID: Transaction ID Number has 6 values in numeric type: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 where:
1: Transferred a bird to another permittee (or to another permit you hold) (1, 2, 3, 6):
This code requires both names present on a 3-186A records: Sender and Recipient names. Both names may be one person or 2 persons. Both names can come from one state or 2 different states.
2: Released a bird or lost a bird due to its escape, theft, or death (1, 2, 6):
This code requires Sender's name and Date Transferred...
3: Acquired bird from another permittee, other than a rehabilitator, (1, 2, 3, 6):
This code requires both Sender & Recipient names, Date Transferred & Acquired...
4: Acquired bird from a rehabilitation permittee (1, 2, 3, 6):
This code requires both Sender & Recipient names, Date Transferred & Acquired...
5: Captured a bird from the wild or recaptured a previously captive (banded) bird (1, 3, 4, 6):
This code requires Recipient's name, Date Acquired...
6: Re-banded a bird, either wild or captive-bred, for which the band was lost or removed (1, 2, 5, 6):
This code requires Sender's name, Date Transferred...
