An albatross after a storm at Midway Atoll Refuge

Large, fallen ironwood branches rest on both sides of a Laysan albatross nest at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge after dramatic winter storms, Jan. 13, 2022. Hundreds of ironwood branches fell during the winter storms at Midway Atoll during December and early January, and several branches unfortunately crushed many albatross eggs.
