Draft Compatibility Determination for Commercial Tree Harvesting at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge

Public Comments Requested for Draft Compatibility Determination for Commercial Tree Harvesting

The Refuge is seeking public review and comment on our draft Compatibility Determination (CD) for commercial tree harvesting. Commercial tree harvesting was an integral part of the Forest Management Plans that were approved and implemented on the refuge, and was most recently recognized as a management tool in the refuge’s 2024 Habitat Management Plan (HMP). This Draft CD updates the current CD and proposes the continuance of commercial tree harvesting.

The public is invited to review the draft Compatibility Determination. We will accept comments received or postmarked on or before October 28, 2024.

The full draft is available below in the attachments section.

Comments can be sent via email to John Magera, Refuge Manager; Moosehorn NWR, 103 Headquarters Rd., Baring, ME 04694; or (207)454-7161; or john_magera@fws.gov.  Please include 'Commercial Tree Harvesting CD' in the subject line.

All comments received from individuals become part of the official public record. All requests for such comments are handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and the CEQ’s NEPA regulations in 40 CFR 1506.6(f). The Service’s practice is to make comments, including names and home addresses of respondents, available for public review during regular business hours. Individual respondents can request that we withhold their home address from the record, which we will honor to the extent allowable by law. If you wish us to withhold your name and/or address, you must state this prominently at the beginning of your comments.
