Tidal influence from the Hulē‘ia River (left) supports ideal habitat for waterbirds. The high tide deliver nutrients from the Nawiliwili Bay into the Hulē‘ia floodplains, then when the water level subsides, it exposes new areas of the ponds for waterbirds to forage and nest in.
