Emily is a Portland, OR high school graduate who will be attending the University of North Carolina next spring with an eye towards biology and health care degrees and a future in dentistry. She enjoys tennis and has been drawing and painting since she was a small child. Although her specialty is painting portraits, Emily has entered the Junior Duck Stamp art contest for many years under teacher Xiao Hong Xu at Sun Century Art Academy. Emily works primarily in oils. She chose the drake King Eider as she was drawn to its colors and its confident appearance. She titled her painting "Eider's Kingdom." Emily's 2023 Junior Duck Stamp entry of a pair of Mallards took third place nationally and she has won several state awards for her works. She says perseverance is the key; she doesn't do art just to win but to improve her skills over time. She hopes to continue painting and looks forward to entering the Federal Duck Stamp Contest when she is eligible.
