Newly hatched Laysan albatross chick with one of its mothers.

A large white bird sits on a ground made from a mount of dirt with a indent in the center. There is a gray-downy baby albatross the size of an avocado in the center of the nest between its moms two webbed feet. Egg shells are visible behind the nest and there is an unbroken egg just to the right of the nest.

A female mōlī or Laysan albatross sits on her newly hatched chick at Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. The unhatched egg outside of the nest indicates that she is part of a female-female pair and both birds laid an egg and one was pushed from the nest.
