Size comparison of wolves and coyotes

A graphic showing the relative sizes of gray wolves, Mexican wolves, and coyotes. Gray wolves are the largest, Mexican wolves are more slender and shorter, and coyotes are much smaller.

Mexican wolves and gray wolves don't currently overlap in distribution. If you see a wolf in Arizona or New Mexico, it is a Mexican wolf. However, it is possible to confuse Mexican wolves and coyotes, as they can occupy the same habitats.
