In 2010, over 50 volunteers with the Buffalo Niagara Riverkeepers came out in one day to Ellicott Creek Park to remove nearshore water chestnut plants inaccessible to mechanical harvesting. Their efforts provided a real 'finished look" to the waterway! Since this area is entirely within a popular county park, both there was both an aesthetic and recreational importance to removing invasive water chestnut.
