William Lynn

Bill Lynn joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Alabama Ecological Services Field Office, in February 2012.  He serves as the recovery and permitting lead for the Alabama beach mouse (ABM) (Peromyscus polionotus ammobates).  Bill supports and leads actions towards the recovery of the ABM, a federally endangered species.  He is also responsible for the permitting of Section 7 Section 7
Section 7 Consultation The Endangered Species Act (ESA) directs all Federal agencies to work to conserve endangered and threatened species and to use their authorities to further the purposes of the Act. Section 7 of the Act, called "Interagency Cooperation," is the mechanism by which Federal agencies ensure the actions they take, including those they fund or authorize, do not jeopardize the existence of any listed species.

Bill works with a variety of conservation partners along Alabama’s Gulf Coast.  His primary focus is scientific monitoring techniques, radio telemetry, habitat creation, restoration of sand dunes, and abatement of coastal erosion.  He educates public and private stakeholders through presentations, public speaking engagements, demonstrations and work in the community. 

A chance meeting with a wildlife biologist lead to his career choice.  Since then, Bill has served in the field of wildlife biology for over 28 years, including 11 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  His career includes working for a variety of public agencies, private consulting firms and a forestry company.  He earned a Master’s degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University and is a certified Wildlife Biologist.  He is a member of the Alabama State Chapter of the Wildlife Society, the American Society of Mammologists and serves as an advisor to the Board of Alabama Coastal Heritage Trust. 

Bill is an avid outdoorsman, and his love of nature began with family camping trips as well as hunting and fishing with his brother.  Bill lives in Fairhope, Alabama with his wife Sandra and daughter Savannah.
