Refuge Main Entrance Road and Exit Closed Due to Flooding

The Refuge entrance road remains closed to all public entry due to flooding. Vehicles are now allowed to access the Refuge through the Marshland Access from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. The gate will be closed at 3:30PM. Pedestrians and bicyclists can access the Refuge through Marshland Access daily from dawn to dusk. Marshland Access is located 2 miles west of the entrance on Hwy 35. We will be monitoring the flooding. When flood waters recede and the road is safe for travel, we will reopen the Refuge entrance road. Please check out our Facebook page and internet page for road updates. Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1936 and is nestled along the eastern edge of the mighty Mississippi River. The scenic drive to the refuge along the Great River Scenic Byway entices travelers along the way.

      This 6,808 acre refuge lies within the Mississippi River. The rolling prairies, rich wetlands and bottomland forests support a variety of wildlife species. These backwaters of the river provide resting and feeding areas for both waterfowl and other birds.
