Wolf Island National Wildlife Refuge, which also includes Egg Island and Little Egg Island, is located at the mouth of the Altamaha River on the Georgia coast. The entire refuge was designated a National Wilderness Area in 1975 and provides critical sanctuary for migrating birds and nursery habitat for sea turtles.

Wolf Island NWR is only accessible by boat, and visitors must provide their own transportation. The navigable waterways throughout the refuge are open to recreational activities such as fishing, crabbing, and boating. All refuge uplands, including the beach and marshes, are closed to the public to provide sanctuary to shorebirds. Wildlife obersvation and photography are possible from boats.
