Laws and Regulations
The refuge rules and regulations are located in the annually updated Public Use brochure, which can be downloaded online or picked up at one of the yellow boxes across the refuge or the visitor center. Please note that the hours that visitors are permitted on the refuge change throughout the year. Please pay attention to the river levels that impact the refuge.
Answers to some frequently asked questions:
- ATVs and UTVs are only allowed on yellow-marked trails. ATV use is prohibited on gravel roads.
- State bag limits apply for all hunts unless indicated otherwise in the Public Use brochure. Check here for State regulations.
- Boating is prohibited from Nov. 1 through Feb. in the Jacks Bay Hunt Area and Levee Hunt Area, except from 4 am to 1 pm on days when waterfowl hunting is open.
- All non-quota hunting during quota deer hunts is prohibited.
- Possessing and/or using toxic shot (lead) by hunters using shotguns to hunt small game or waterfowl is prohibited.
