Kulm Wetland Management District includes four counties that are nestled in the Prairie Pothole Region of North Dakota. This region contains unparalleled wetland and grassland habitats for waterfowl and other migratory birds and many other species of wildlife. Our focus is on the conservation and management of these prairie and wetland habitats.

Visit Us

There are over 200 waterfowl production areas within the Kulm Wetland Management District that are open for your next outdoor adventure. On these areas, you can go hunting, fishing or trapping, practice photography, or take a walk and see what you discover. The headquarters is located in Kulm, North Dakota.

      The Kulm Wetland Management District was established in July 1971. The District includes Dickey, LaMoure, Logan, and McIntosh counties of North Dakota. We manage over 45,000 acres of waterfowl production areas and oversee habitat protections on more than 249,000 acres of privately-owned properties.

      In the Kulm Wetland Management District, we use a variety of techniques to actively manage, maintain, recover, or enhance plant communities and wildlife populations. We focus on active management of public lands through cooperative agreements with private landowners and on the perpetual protection of grasslands and wetlands in order to maintain a landscape capable of supporting both wildlife and people.

      The high density of wetlands and large tracts of grasslands within the District attract a wide array of grassland and wetland nesting migratory birds plus a wide variety of other wildlife species. In the central part of the District, breeding waterfowl densities often exceed 100 pair per square mile.
