Popular species include largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, catfish, bowfin and gar. The refuge consists of impounded freshwater marshes, with the 16,000-acre Lacassine Pool as the predominant feature. The Lacassine Bayou (approximately 2,000 acres) and about eight miles of canals are also available for fishing. Fishing is permitted at Lacassine Pool and in refuge marshes, March 15-October 15. A 40 hp maximum motor size is in effect for boaters on the Lacassine Pool.
