Permits
Special use permits are issued by the refuge manager for authorized special activities. A few of the regulated refuge special uses may include scientific studies, firewood cutting and commercial filming. Permits may be obtained by submitting a formal request to the attention of the refuge manager by mail:

Permitted activities on the refuge
- Hiking
- Dogs on a leash
- Wildlife observation
- Photography
- Fishing is permitted in pools and ditches adjacent to the auto tour in accordance with State of Missouri fishing regulations and may only be taken with hand-held pole and line or rod and reel. Snagging for rough or non-game fish is available as conditions permit.
- Hunting is permitted in accordance with state regulations in specific areas
- Mushroom hunting and berry picking in designated areas
