Facility Rules and Policies
In order to safeguard both wildlife and refuge visitors, please observe the following rules and regulations:
Rules and Regulations at Parker River NWR
The following items or activities are prohibited:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Camping
- Collecting, disturbing, or feeding wildlife
- Collecting, cutting, or disturbing plants
- Collecting or removing beached lobster pots or buoys
- Collecting, digging, or removing sand, dirt, earth, etc., or any other inorganic materials (human-generated litter excepted)
- Disturbing, collecting, or removing archaeological or other cultural resources
- Dogs, horses, and other domestic animals (seeing eye dogs and others that assist the physically impaired excepted)
- Fires (including charcoal grills, propane and gas stoves, etc.)
- Fireworks
- Kite flying
- Launching or landing watercraft (non-motorized boaters and waterfowl hunters contact refuge headquarters for exceptions)
- Metal detector use
- Geocaching
- Nudity
- Parking outside designated areas
- Releasing wild or domestic animals
- Roller-blading, roller-skating, roller-skiing, and skateboarding
- Snowmobiling
- Tenting
- Use of drones, model airplanes and/or other remote-controlled aircraft
- Use of “fat bicycles” on the refuge beach (All bicycle use is restricted to the refuge road.)
- Use of lights (including vehicle headlights) to locate wildlife
- Surfing, kite-surfing, kite-boarding
Furthermore,
- To reduce disturbance to wildlife and for your safety, public use is restricted to designated areas. All other areas, including the dunes, are closed.
- Refuge visitors wishing to possess firearms must comply with all related State laws. Firearms are not allowed in any refuge building, including the visitor center/headquarters, visitor contact station, and all restrooms. Hunters should contact refuge headquarters for specific restrictions and/or exceptions.
