Is your school, youth, environmental or other group interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants, habitats and ecology of Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge? Contact the refuge to check on program availability and reservation policies. Refuges are wild places, and we want to teach you more about them! All field trips, for both naturalist guided and teacher self-guided trips, are scheduled only via reservation in order to avoid conflicting groups using the site at the same time. Field trips and site reservations are free.
Due to limited education staffing, naturalist guided field trips are limited to ONE CLASS per field trip to ensure a quality experience for the students. To request a field trip, please send an email to stonelakes@fws.gov with the subject heading "Field Trip RSVP Request for (your school name)" with your name, contact information, class information and size, and a couple potential days for a field trip. A refuge staff member will get back to you within a week of your request.
The non-profit group 'Friends of Stone Lakes' offers "Ride to the Refuge" bus transportation grants for schools in the Elk Grove Unified School District. To find out more on how to apply for the bus transportation grants, please visit "Ride to the Refuge" information page at the Friends of Stone Lakes website.
