Backcountry camping is allowed by permit in designated portions of the Charon's Garden Wilderness Area.
Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for a maximum of three days. Friday, Saturday, Sunday -or- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. No permits are issued for Thursday. A total of ten (10) permits can be issued for any time period. Reservations are taken up to 3 months in advance.
Permits are only available via Recreation.gov. Staff will no longer be issuing on site permits.
A $10 administrative fee per permit plus $5 per-person fee will be charged. The fee is non-refundable once a permit is issued.
It is your responsibility to know all refuge regulations. A regulation and information leaflet may be obtained at Refuge Headquarters or at each entrance to the refuge.
Campfires or open fires of any kind are strictly prohibited.
Do not Trench around tent or level off tent site.
