About Shane Ransbury

Shane Ransbury was born and raised near Sacramento, California. He has a master’s degree in Fisheries Management from Oregon State University, a bachelor’s from UC Santa Barbara, and a law enforcement associate's degree from Butte College. Initially, Shane worked in the hatchery system for several hatcheries in California and eventually Alaska. He met his wife in Juneau while living remote on Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska and began making the transition to fisheries management to be closer to her. Shane has worked on a variety of projects throughout his career, including weirs, sonars, a fish wheel test fishery, a gillnet test fishery, and a Chinook salmon hatchery, among other numerous projects. These projects primarily focused on salmon, but he has also worked with other species such as northern pike and spot shrimp. Shane worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) for two years as the assistant manager for commercial and personal use fisheries in the Haines Area, and then Fairbanks as a USFWS seasonal employee running the Andreafsky River weir and assisting at the Teedriinjik (Chandalar) sonar project. Soon after, Shane worked for ADF&G as the fall season assistant manager for commercial, subsistence, and personal use fisheries the Yukon Area. He is currently a fishery assessment biologist for USFWS in Fairbanks.
