This paper provides examples and guidance for enhancing public participation outcomes using online engagement tools. Many agencies use websites and social media to inform stakeholders and the public about upcoming decisions. A growing number are experimenting with online tools that facilitate two-way communication. These tools have the potential to expand the number and diversity of voices contributing to agency decision making.

This guide was developed by the Institute for Local Government with local government agencies in mind. However, it is informative and relevant for state and federal agencies too.
