Prescribed Burns Planned for Spring 2023 at Little Pend Oreille NWR

NOTICE

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff at the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge is preparing for prescribed burning. The map below depicts the location of proposed burning on the Refuge.  We will begin prescribed burning when the fuel and weather conditions allow us to meet burn objectives safely.  Some prescribed burning may be added, broken up into smaller units or delayed for another year.

Burning is planned to occur sometime between mid-March through May, these burns are implemented to reduce fuel loadings from commercial and non-commercial thinning projects and to restore and enhance wildlife habitat. Burning will occur only when weather conditions are favorable on days when the smoke will disperse and mix with the predominant air flow. Prescribed fires will be conducted in accordance with regional air quality guidelines.
