Going Bat-Crazy at the Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery
Celebrating National Bat Week at Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery

Halloween just passed, but did you know that Bat Week was a big hit at Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery? There are drawings, paintings, and cut-outs of over 500 bats on display for everyone to see! These bats were made by the students at Mammoth Spring School District and some of our most creative volunteers. The bats are displayed all over the Visitor Center and labeled by each student, their age & school classroom. The art class also helped decorate the place by painting the Visitor Center/Aquarium Building windows to add to the bat-festive atmosphere. The Friends of Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery even gave pumpkins for decorations, and Project Leader Grant Webber provided several hay bales to add to the Fall decor. How cool is that? The school's woodshop even made a “Bat Rocket” for the hatchery, which is a deluxe bat house! The wood for the Bat Rocket was provided by local hardware store.

But wait, there's more to this than just having fun. All these decorations and activities are actually a way to get people interested in learning about bats. The Hatchery’s goal is to entice visitors with participation and share knowledge of bats in the world.  While viewing the bat decorations, the visitors also get to learn all the cool facts about bats. It's not just about having a good time, it also includes learning about all the amazing critters in our country and world.

Big shoutout to the Friends of Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery, Mammoth Spring School District, Covers Lumber, and all the volunteers who helped make Bat Week a success!
