Volunteer Position Overview
About This Position
This position will serve as an aid to the Refuge’s visitor services program. The position will work with local communities and school districts to provide environmental education and resource interpretation with staff and independently. Seasonally appropriate outdoor recreation will be a primary focus of the position. These activities may include cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, ice-fishing, and winter outdoor survival courses. Interns will be encouraged to work with Refuge staff and partners to develop their own education programs.
Secondary responsibilities of the position will include aiding with digital outreach. This may include graphic design, video editing, and outdoor photography. This volunteer position will also be involved with various Refuge projects which may include general maintenance, assisting biological programs, or other regular Refuge activities.
To qualify for Refuge housing, a volunteer is required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Flexible hours may be allowed on a case by case basis. Airline travel for intern will be provided up to $1000. Meal costs up to $200 per week will be provided. Refuge vehicle will be provided for local use. Volunteer must commit to 90 days to receive travel stipend. Listed start and end dates are negotiable.
