Start your challenge today! The River Rat Relay Challenge has been extended until we run out of patches! Celebrate the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge's 100th anniversary by exploring the refuge and earning a FREE iron-on patch!
December 2024 update - We ordered 100 more patches and the River Rat Relay Challenge will continue until patches are gone! This relay is a self-led, self-paced event. To get started, pick-up a challenge card at the La Crosse District Visitor Center or download one here! Stop-by the five locations listed on the card and note which animal you see on a sign there. Redeem your completed challenge card for a free commemorative patch at the Visitor Center! These patches are a limited-time offering and are available for all who complete the relay. It is possible to visit all locations in one day and signs are placed within a short walk of parking areas.
