The in-season Youth Hunt is a Refuge only hunt that occurs on a pre-selected Thursday over the winter break. Qualifying hunters include individuals 17 years of age and under with school ID. The purpose of the Youth Hunt is to provide mentoring opportunities for young hunters, where they can gain valuable experience with hunting techniques, safety, regulations, and ethics.An adult at least 18 years of age must accompany youth hunters. Adults cannot hunt with youth; their role is to guide and supervise the hunt. Adults are responsible for the safety of youth hunters and for adhering to state regulations. The Refuge hunt fee is waived for this hunt. Species and daily bag limits are the same as the regular duck season (refer to CDFW hunt regulations).The following licensing and validations are required to participate in this hunt:
Hunting License: Youth 15 year of age and under must have a Junior Hunting License. Those 16 and over must have an adult license.
Federal Duck Stamp: Not required for youth 15 years of age and under. Youth 16 or older must have a signed Federal Duck Stamp.
California Duck Validation: Not required for youth 15 years of age and under. Youth 16 or older must have California Duck Validation.
Harvest Information Program (HIP) Validation: Required for all hunters, regardless of age.
