Seasons of Wildlife
Visitors can see mallard ducks, bald eagles, great blue herons and a variety of hawk species at Neosho National Fish Hatchery. Gray squirrels, cottontail rabbits, white-tailed deer and red fox are the most commonly seen mammals at the hatchery. All of these can be seen year round. Canada goose and several species of waterfowl can be seen during the winter and spring migratory period. During the summer, a variety of large butterflies such as monarchs, spicebush swallowtails, zebra swallowtails and giant swallowtails can be seen.
Featured Species
Neosho National Fish Hatchery raises rainbow trout for mitigation. We raise pallid sturgeon and Topeka shiners for restoration efforts. We raise logperch and freshwater drum to serve as hosts for freshwater mussel restoration efforts. In addition to these species, visitors to Neosho National Fish Hatchery can see a variety of local birds and small mammals.
