In 2021, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland charged the U.S. Geological Survey to “Unleash the Science” to ensure that science and research is being shared to “help all of us make the best decisions for our planet now and for the future.” Over the past three years, bureaus across the Department, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, have stepped up to the challenge – both investing in science and applying it to guide evidence-based decision making. The Service's very mission of conservation requires us to embrace sound science and scientific integrity. That’s why in many stories on our website, you’ll see a sentence like, “After reviewing the best available science, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service …” Science underpins every decision at the Service and the Department of the Interior and keeps our public lands, wildlife, and cultural resources protected for the public to enjoy for generations to come.
