Pathways Internships

The Internship Program targets current students enrolled in high school, college or technical school at least half time. 

Start dates & Work Schedule: Projected start dates per position can be found here and most have flexibility. Duration of the positions varies but most are expected to continue through completion of your degree program with flexible work schedules. Students must complete 640 work hours prior to graduation to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position.

The Pathways program provides a Direct Hiring Authority to students upon graduating. This means that students may convert to a permanent job with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service upon graduating from their degree program.

Federal Pathways Program for Students and Recent Graduates 

The Pathways Program offers federal internship, fellowship and employment opportunities found on USAJobs.gov. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service appoints interns or fellows through the two Pathways Program components. 

  • The Internship Program targets current students enrolled in high school, college or technical school at least half time. 
  • The Recent Graduates Program targets individuals who apply within two years of graduation (longer for veterans).
