A bumblebee extends its tongue to gather nectar from a milkvetch wildflower in this photo taken at the North Unit of Lake Mason National Wildlife Refuge. Bumblebees are common on the North Unit, as are the wildflowers they pollinate, of which many are in the legume and aster family. Wildflowers on this unit grow low to the ground given the constant prairie wind. Photo by Cortez Rohr/USFWS
