About Cortez Rohr
Cortez Rohr, District Manager for the Charles M. Russell Wetland Management District and Refuge Manager for Lake Mason, Grass Lake, War Horse, and Hailstone National Wildlife Refuges in Montana, served in the Army - Active Duty, from 2003-2011. He deployed to Iraq in '04, '05, and '09. Cortez used both the Post-9/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Zoology - Wildlife Biology & Conservation while minoring in Environmental Studies, and a Professional Science Master's degree in Zoology - Wildlife Management & Administration.
Cortez was formerly the Deputy Refuge Manager at Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in southwest Montana from 2019-2023. He has previously worked for the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Forest Service - Rocky Mountain Research Station. Cortez performs biological, wildlife, land management, visitor services, interpretive, rangeland, administrative, firefighter, and maintenance duties. His current responsibilities entail managing a Wetland Management District covering five counties in central and south-central Montana spanning in excess of 9,175 sq miles encompassing four National Wildlife Refuges, six Waterfowl Production Areas, and numerous conservation easements.
In his free time, Cortez enjoys landscape photography, hunting, backpacking in the wilderness, and landscaping with native flora.
