This patch of mixed grass prairie at Kirwin NWR in Northcentral Kansas was prescribe burned a couple months before this photo was taken. The result was a great show of Blacksamson Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) and Catclaw Sensitivebriar (Schrankia nuttallii).
