Participants use a kick seine to collect stream invertebrates

Haywood Waterways, watershed organization for the upper Pigeon River watershed, holds a Toes in the Toe event, which brought every Haywood County eighth-grade student to the Pigeon River to learn about streams and water quality. The Service’s Asheville Field Office, along with numerous partners, helped with this event, giving leaders a chance to collect, identify, and discuss fish and stream macroinvertebrates.
