Pine Meadow

An open Ponderosa pine meadow is one of many within the woodlands of War Horse National Wildlife Refuge - War Horse Unit. This Refuge unit harbors a fair number of porcupines which leave their tell-tale sign of gnawing the bark off trees and limbs to feed on the cambium layer of wood. Photo by Cortez Rohr/USFWS.
