The Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change (ASCC) project is trying to answer what may be the most critical forest management question of our time: how can today’s forestry practices help create the healthiest possible forests of the future in the face of climate change climate change
Climate change includes both global warming driven by human-induced emissions of greenhouse gases and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns. Though there have been previous periods of climatic change, since the mid-20th century humans have had an unprecedented impact on Earth's climate system and caused change on a global scale.

Established in 2012, the Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change (ASCC) project uses some consistent experimental design elements at all study locations while allowing individual sites to tailor treatments to their unique, local contexts. Each study focuses on understanding and evaluating management options designed to enable forests to respond to a changing climate.
