Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association

The Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association was established in July of 1998 in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Its purpose is to " promote conservation, awareness, and appreciation of Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge (Decatur, AL) and to provide assistance to environmental education programs and other conservation efforts on the Refuge.”

Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization as defined under the laws of the state of Alabama and the United States Internal Revenue Service under section 501(c)3.

Partner Category

We often partner with non-governmental conservation organizations on conservation projects, whether it's to conserve identified species such as the monarch butterfly or to advise on land acquisition for conservation so that it has the greatest benefit for species.

Those who experience the outdoors and wildlife first-hand become its greatest conservationists.  We partner with these groups to foster their love of wildlife and conservation.

Here we partner with a wider variety of other organizations on projects to meet shared conservation goals.
