DENVER – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment (EA) regarding a request from the Nebraska Game and Park Commission (NGPC) for approval to exchange property at the Gilbert-Baker Wildlife Management Area in Sioux County originally acquired with grant funds from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is administered by the Service. The property will be conveyed to the Nebraska Board of Educational Land and Funds (BELF) in exchange for a similar parcel of land currently owned by BELF adjacent to the Gilbert-Baker WMA. A decision by the Service regarding this request constitutes a Federal action subject to the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended (NEPA). The Draft EA has been prepared to comply with NEPA provisions to assess potential impacts on the human environment and to document an analysis of the effects of the “Proposed Action” and the “No Action” alternatives. Public comments will be accepted for a 30-day period ending July 5, 2018.
