LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge is announcing temporary closures on Hart Mountain Grade Road for periods between Sept. 22 through Nov. 18, 2022.
Hart Mountain Grade Road will be closed to all traffic from September 22-30. During this time, visitors will not be able to access the refuge via Hart Mountain Grade Road. Visitor access will remain open to visitors via Frenchglen Road. Backcountry access is also open via South Boundary Road at the refuge entrance at Jacob’s Reservoir; however, this access is remote and requires a four-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance.
Temporary duration road closures with traffic control will start on or after October 12 and will last approximately four weeks. Short duration road closures are anticipated to last up to an hour. Duration of temporary closures will depend on safety considerations and the amount of traffic.
Road construction will include slope repair, curve grading, and resurfacing work from the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge entrance sign at the bottom of the grade road and extend to the top of the grade road. The project will address slope erosion, improve curve visibility, and road surface conditions.
