VALENTINE, Neb.— The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment, for public review and comment, that evaluates cooperative agriculture activities at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge in Nebraska. Public comments on the draft Environmental Assessment will be accepted for 30 days, from April 1 through April 30, 2025.
Cooperative agricultural activities, including haying, grazing and seed harvest, are being proposed to enhance grassland habitat. The areas proposed for grazing include parts of the refuge located west of the Niobrara River that are not grazed by bison.
A copy of the draft Environmental Assessment, which includes details of the proposed action and instructions on how to submit comments, is available on the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge website: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/fort-niobrara.
Those without internet access may request a copy of the Environmental Assessment and instructions on how to submit comments by calling the refuge at (402) 389-2807.
