Access by commercial air is necessary to King Salmon, Port Heiden, Kodiak and Cold Bay, and then charter aircraft to the remote locations of Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is along the southeastern two-thirds of the Alaska Peninsula, encompassing the Aleutian Range. All five species of Pacific salmon are available in the freshwater streams and lakes, plus Arctic char, rainbow and lake trout, grayling, Dolly Varden, northern pike and burbot. Saltwater species include flounder and halibut. The refuge includes numerous ponds, lakes, rivers, streams and estuaries. Refuge fishing is year-round.
