While there are no maintained trails on Black Coulee NWR, visitors are encouraged to get out and walk the prairies to view and listen to the likes of Baird’s sparrows, Sprague’s pipits, western meadowlarks, horned larks, northern harriers, and various waterfowl. The native prairie and wetland offer great varieties of plant species, and the open space offers the ‘big sky’ feeling Montana has to offer.
