From its start in 1903, the National Wildlife Refuge System has owed its very existence to concerned individuals eager to conserve America's natural resources. You too can make a difference for conservation.

Volunteering

A national wildlife refuge is typically a contiguous area of land and water managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service  for the conservation and, where appropriate, restoration of fish, wildlife and plant resources and their habitats for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.

Our annual Youth Fishing Rodeo would not be possible without the support of community volunteers and our friends group.

We work with AmeriCorps, Delta Service Corps, the Student Conservation Association, and various colleges and universities to provide opportunities for service learning.  Contact our volunteer coordinator to learn more about how you can help.
 

Our Partners

The Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges Inc. support a wide variety of projects at the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex. As a non-profit organization, our Friends group seeks funding from private and public sources and secures grants for habitat restoration, special events, and education projects.
